Guru Arjan Sahib describes how to blossom by creating a reverential relationship with IkOankar (the Divine). This Sabad emphasizes the importance of the company of truth-oriented beings and the grace of IkOankar to cross this world ocean and attain a supreme state. In the fifth Sabad, Guru Arjan invokes the words “my Madhau ji” to share his relationship. Personally and reverentially, he invokes Madhau or Madho, the Owner of Maya or illusion, the real Sovereign who owns or overpowers all things that deceive us. Madhau is also the One to who I am waiting to be betrothed. Madhau, the Beloved-Sovereign, lovingly overpowers deception and darkness and brings the Light to me. We hear: O my revered Beloved-Sovereign, the one who finds the Eternal-inspired company becomes free and swims across the world-ocean. It is in the Eternal-inspired company the Wisdom is found. And when we feel the grace of the Wisdom, we live in an elevated state of existence. And in this elevated state of existence, even the driest of dry wood becomes green and softens into saplings. This is the pause moment to reflect how the hardened beings are infused with the Light. Light gives life. A greening, a richness, a fulfillment enters life. There is no denial about living a rich life. This is about overpowering the Maya, the darkness, the otherness, the things that distract us from the Beloved-Sovereign. How do we become green? What virtue do we need to maintain to remain green? Where can we find the company of Eternal-inspired?
O my revered Beloved-Sovereign, the one who finds the Eternal-inspired company becomes free and swims across the world-ocean. O mind, why are you always thinking about efforts to provide more and more? When you already know that the All-Pervasive, the Fear-Eliminator, and the Light is fully engaged in providing for all. Look and see, the All-Pervasive’s provisions are already prepared and availed for even those who are embedded in the rocks and stones. Why then do we live in fear when even those who live in the darkest and the hardest spaces receive sustenance? Could it be because our needs have increased? Why is it so hard for the mind to remember the One who takes care of all?
O my revered Beloved-Sovereign, the one who finds the Eternal-inspired company becomes free and swims across the world-ocean. When you know that parents, relatives, children, spouse, and people in our networks, no one is really anyone’s support. So, how are they the actual providers? Know this, that the Thakur, the Provider-Sovereign, counts each head, provides to all. O mind, why are you afraid? Why are we dependent, entangled with our networks when we know that they are merely instruments to deliver what the One avails? Why do we constantly worry about providing temporary things? What is the fear that we need to address?
O my revered Beloved-Sovereign, the one who finds the Eternal-inspired company becomes free and swims across the world-ocean. A question arises: The bird flies for hundreds of miles, their young ones are left behind alone. Who provides for them? Who feeds them? The answer: The bird’s mind is in remembrance. The bird flies off, safe in knowing that the One cares and provides for all. And this remembrance frees the bird and enables it to soar. Do we want to be filled with fear due to our worries? Or do we want to be with the One while we are in remembrance? If the One is in our remembrance, there is a connectedness. That inter-connectedness invokes the elevated level of existence. For, everything is connected. What do we have in our remembrance, in our consciousness?

All treasures and greatest of the provisions are on the palm of Thakur, the Provider-Sovereign. All life-giving materials, all grains, all proficiencies are waiting to be distributed to all instantly without stipulations. In awe and reverence, I adore, adore, and adore innumerable times the Provider-Sovereign You are endless and limitless; You provide for all and forever. We are reminded that all treasures exist in life, and those in remembrance have them. However, our consciousness is looking for something else from someone else, things to prove to others. Do we really know what we really want?
Guru Arjan shares with us how to gracefully become green to live an elevated life. For that, he develops personal and reverential relationships with the One. That is to develop virtues where I can “own” the illusion, deception, and darkness in the company of the Eternal-inspired; where my mind’s worry center is not consumed by the what and how to provide; where I address my fear by relying on the Provider-Sovereign; where my mind “lives” in remembrance and I am in constant adoration of the One. Are we ready to enrich the landscape of our lives? Are we prepared to blossom without being fearful for our sustenance? For, the caring, the giving, the treasures of the All-Pervasive, the Fear-Eliminator, the Light are limitless and boundless. Are we willing to take the plunge and prepare to wed the Beloved-Sovereign?
