Guru Arjan Sahib describes removing the duality and wandering in the company of virtuous beings. Sorrows and conflicts are destroyed by doing so, and the being leads a virtuous life. Corresponding to the fifteen-day lunar calendar and each pauri (stanza) correlates to each day formed by the waxing and waning of the moon. The second pauri (stanza) advises the individual to remove lust, anger, greed, and false thinking and instead inculcate the teachings of the Wisdom (Guru). The beings who remove ego and enshrine Nam (Identification with IkOankar) within attain honor everywhere.

In the second salok (couplet), Guru Arjan says, I enter the sanctuary of the Sovereign, the 1-Light. I salute the One many times. We salute IkOankar (One Universal Integrative Force, 1Force, the One) because our relationship with the One helps us rid ourselves of dualities and doubts of the mind. The One is the Sovereign whose refuge we seek, whose help we seek. The Guru tells us that IkOankar dwells in the company of virtuous beings. Through their company, the mind’s wandering ceases, the illusion is cut, doubts are erased, and attachment or love for other things is removed. An element of the Sadhu is invoked here, rooted in an idea of sadhana, or discipline – our companionship is both with the virtuous beings and the discipline of the Wisdom. Discipline is required to rid ourselves of what ails us.
