Guru Arjan Sahib describes a flaw-riddled body and the futile nature of pride in material attachment to the physical world. The seeker is encouraged to connect with the eternal IkOankar (the Divine), who removes diseases, sorrows, and sufferings, making way for a fruitful life. The precious gift of Nam is received in the company of virtuous beings and makes the seekers’ lives fruitful. This saloks encourages seekers to welcome the company of virtuous beings to unite with the all-pervasive IkOankar and find eternal comfort and happiness.

In the seventeenth salok, Guru Arjan says that wherever the Beautiful Charming One is pervading, that One is capable of providing support to every being. We may know this logically, but it is not always evident to us; we don’t always understand it in a way that moves us to develop a love for that One. It is hard for us to understand all-pervasiveness because it is too vast for us to comprehend in our day-to-day lives. But the capacity to understand the vastness of the all-pervading, all-supportive Beautiful Charming One is through the Wisdom. When we have an awareness of the Wisdom, internal connection with the Wisdom, and the grace of the Wisdom, we are able to understand this all-pervasive form of the One. That Wisdom changes us — it changes our perceptions and our ways of thinking, the way we see the world and move through it, our behaviors, and develops a love that is so incomprehensibly vast within us.
This happens through a connection to the Wisdom, a relationship with the Wisdom — when reflections on the Wisdom enter our hearts and minds. This is when we feel the presence and connection of the One and develop a love for the One, who often seems too vast and abstract to develop a love for. This happens when we feel the grace through the connection with the Wisdom. Will we make an effort towards that relationship with the Wisdom so that we are charmed by the love of the Beautiful Charming One?
