introduction

In the Guru Granth Sahib, 57 saloks of Guru Teghbahadar Sahib (1621-1675) are recorded under the title ‘Salok Varan Te Vadik,’ from pages 1426 to 1429. In the prevalent vocabulary, these saloks are also referred to as ‘Bhog De Salok’ (concluding saloks), as they are followed by ‘Mundavani Mahala 9’ and ‘Ragmala,’ which complete the Guru Granth Sahib. The original manuscript of the Guru Granth Sahib had already been prepared in 1604 by Guru Arjan Sahib (1553-1606). Since the saloks of Mahala 9 (Guru Teghbahadar Sahib) were not yet revealed, they were not a part of it. These saloks were included by Guru Gobind Singh Sahib (1666-1708) in another manuscript of the Guru Granth Sahib (known as Damdami Bir).
